The Volte Technology runs thevolte.com which is Australia's leading fashion rental marketplace. We host the largest community of lenders and borrowers of luxury occasion wear globally. Each week, thousands of discerning fashion lovers use our platform to share and re-use garments, helping to reduce the environmental impacts of the clothing industry.

We are entering an extremely exciting phase of growth and global expansion. Having recently completed a full modern stack rebuild, our marketplace platform is ready to be extended to cement our position in Australia and rapidly develop our brand and product offering in overseas markets.

The Role

This is rare opportunity to join a rapidly scaling and well-funded business as a leader in technology. Reporting to the CTO, you'll have responsibility across all of our in-house stack. The focus will be on cloud optimisation, devops and back-end software engineering - however you'll need to be familiar with front end development principles and help with code reviews across all projects.

As a senior engineer in a small team you'll be empowered to own the system and make design decisions to achieve excellent business outcomes. Our modern, component-based stack is open for extension or alternatives as you see fit. This role will suit an experienced engineer looking for an opportunity to learn and build with new technologies.

You will also help with maintaining the reliability of our our heavily trafficked site. Some pager duty will be required on roster (current incident average is zero per month).

This is a full-time role, however we can be flexible with regard to the amount of days to suit the right candidate's circumstances.

To be eligible for this role you must be a residing in Australia, New Zealand or the UK; and be a citizen or permanent resident or have a valid visa that provides working rights.

Responsibilities

Writing beautiful code using Python and TypeScript
Extending our SaaS architecture for multi-instance and multi-region capability, using AWS and Terraform
Extending our 3rd party REST API including making data design decisions
Improving our automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
Improving the performance, resilience and cost-effectiveness of our cloud platform
Maintain our local development platform, improve the engineering experience
Reviewing pull requests from other engineers to maintain codebase quality
Learn and share knowledge with other developers including mentoring and pair programming sessions
Maintain the security of our company systems and privacy of customer data
Attend 15 min daily video conference meetings, weekly planning meetings and monthly retrospectives

Your skills and background

Requirements:

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
7+ years commercial software engineering experience
3+ years experience with SaaS or custom e-commerce sites receiving over 100K visitors / month
3+ years experience with infrastructure as code tools, e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
Expert level Python coding skills (5+ years)
Expert SQL skills and working knowledge with Postgres including AWS RDS administration
Advanced Docker skills
Competent with TypeScript, React and GraphQL
